Pupil Premium
The pupil premium is additional funding for schools to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities and to close the gaps between them and their peers. The Secretary of State for Education lays down the following terms and conditions on which assistance is given in relation to the pupil premium grant (PPG) payable to schools and local authorities for the financial year beginning 1 April 2023. PPG provides funding for two policies:
- raising the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities to reach their potential
- supporting children and young people with parents in the regular armed forces
Schools receive a payment, or Pupil Premium, for each child who registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years; those looked after by the local authority and the children of armed service personnel. This income is £1,455 per eligible pupil and £2,530 for Looked After Children (LAC). For the financial year 2023/24, Mount Stewart Junior School expects to receive £33,465 in Pupil Premium funding.
