Safeguarding
At Mount Stewart Federation, we are committed to fostering a robust safeguarding culture that is rooted in the principles outlined by the Working Together to Safeguard Children legislation. Our definition of safeguarding encompasses several key aspects:
- Protecting children from maltreatment: We prioritize creating a safe environment where children are shielded from any form of harm or abuse.
- Preventing impairment of children’s health or development: Our policies and practices are designed to support the healthy and holistic growth of every child.
- Ensuring a safe and effective care environment: We strive to provide an atmosphere where children can grow and thrive in a setting that meets their needs for safety and effective care.
- Promoting optimal outcomes for all children: We actively work towards ensuring that each child achieves their full potential in a nurturing environment.
Safeguarding is the cornerstone of our duty towards the children in our care. It transcends beyond the realm of education and is the responsibility of every professional who interacts with children. This responsibility is not taken lightly at Mount Stewart Federation.
To uphold this commitment, our staff is continually educated and updated on key legislation and policies related to child protection. This knowledge empowers us to take all necessary steps to safeguard the children in our care, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.

The Single Central Record (SCR) is a document maintained by the school to demonstrate that staff have undergone appropriate recruitment and police checks. The SCR is updated as and when new staff are recruited and when they leave their service at TMSS. Governors, volunteers, and regular visitors to the school are also recorded on the SCR.
Visitors to the school are required to sign in at the main reception area and are issued with a visitor badge and safeguarding information leaflet. Visitors who do not have appropriate DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) clearance will not have sole access to children.
If you have a concern about a pupil please call; 020 8907 5113 and ask for Rachel Johnson for a safeguarding matter.
